Services

What hair fashion do you offer?

Feathers are a damage-proof way to add flair to your hair. The feathers are grizzly and whitling rooster feathers. These natural fibers allow them to last a long time and can be treated, washed and styled as your own hair. Sparkles are holographic tinsel which is attached to the hair, along side the feathers or alone. They can last several weeks, depending on the care of the hair, and can be washed, dried and heat-styled. Both can be installed minimally to show a hint of color or applied for maximum pizzazz - or as our clients like to say "A bajillion feathers".

What beauty services do you provide?

Our services include Microblading, Henna Brow Tint and Threading hair removal for eyebrows to full face. Other services include hair fashion. View our full service menu here. Read owner Ao's bio here.

Threading

What is Threading?

Eyebrow threading is a practice of shaping the eyebrows and the preferred hair removal technique for a number of reasons. Threading removes one clean line of hair all at once, making it more efficient and effortless to shape the brows. A fresh antibacterial thread of cotton is used to shape the brow with minimal redness and tugging on the delicate skin around the eyes. Threading is 100% natural, with no artificial waxes, chemicals, or invasive techniques used. It removes the hair from the follicle, ensuring a long lasting result.

Is Threading ok for sensitive skin?

Threading is a great alternative for skin that is sensitive or allergic to waxing. For shaping "trouble" brows, it is completely safe and dermatologist-recommended for individuals who are currently using medications such as Accutane and Retin-A. Men, women and teens can also benefit from threading options which extend to cleaning upper lip, facial and jawline hair. Threading has little to no contact with the skin unlike waxing which tugs at the skin during hair removal, irritates and can discolor sensitive skin. With waxing, the affected skin turns red because of wax tugging and removing the skin, not the actual removal of the hair. If you do get pink from threading, it usually goes away within the hour. Threading is 100% natural, with no artificial waxes, chemicals, or invasive techniques used. It removes the hair from the follicle, ensuring a long lasting result. Please, keep in mind that the menstrual cycle and dry skin can be factors on why threading may hurt more sometimes. Brow exfoliating is a great way to help with dry skin!

Microblading

What is Microblading?

Microblading, also known as eyebrow embroidery, is the delicate, manual method of tattooing individual hair-like strokes onto the eyebrow dermis' upper layer to create natural-looking, fuller eyebrows. This is an impactful solution for those experiencing hair loss, sparseness from over-tweezing, want a different brow shape and also for people who just love a full, more defined brow that requires minimal effort.

Is it painful?

By using two types of numbing agents, we assist as much as we can to help alleviate any discomfort. There may be an increase in discomfort should you have the procedure during your menstrual cycle.

Will it heal quickly?

Healing occurs in approximately 10 days. During this time, allow your brows to naturally exfoliate off. To do so, avoid exposing them to water, sweat, steam, etc. An average of 4 weeks is needed for scabbing to pass, lightening of brows and the true color of your microbladed brows to appear. By carefully following after-care instructions, work or being in public should not be an issue.

How long does the microblading last?

On average, depending on skin type and lifestyle, microbladed brows last 1-2 years before a touch-up is needed. While considered permanent, cosmetic tattoos will lighten over time and may require a refresh every 11-15 months. Microbladed brows do not wash off, however those who do not properly follow after-care instructions may need more frequent touch-ups.

How long is the microblading appointment?

To ensure you are more than satisfied with your healed brow, a majority of the 2.5-3 hour long appointment is finding the right color and going over drawing the shape of your perfect brow.

How should I prepare before my microblading appointment?

  • One week before your appointment, do not use:
    • Blood thinners
    • Aspirin
    • Retinol creams
    • Blood thinning vitamins such as fish oils, garlic
  • 24-48 hours before the procedure, do not use:
    • Alcohol
  • The morning of your appointment, do not use:
    • Caffeine
  • Arrive with your brows penciled in so we can determine what you like and what you are used to.
  • If you have consumed caffeine or alcohol regardless of restrictions explained here and by Ao, we will reschedule.

How will I know the eyebrow shape will be what I want?

We will not begin the procedure until you agree with the shape drawn and color selected.

Can you cover an existing tattoo with microblading?

Yes. If the old tattoo is significantly faded then the hair strokes will be able to show through and appear natural. Please submit a picture of your existing tattoo so we can determine if you are a good candidate for microblading.

Someone else microbladed my eyebrows, can you touch-up or fix?

Full microblading price will be charged if you have been microbladed outside of Ao Luxe and need a touch-up.

How will my eyebrows look directly following the procedure?

Gorgeous! The first couple of days, they will appear a little darker but no bruising and minimal swelling. No alcohol the day of your procedure (before and after) to avoid sweat, unlikely bleeding, bruising and unsanitary touching of your eyebrows.

Will I be in pain after the procedure?

You may find the area to be a bit sore within the first few hours and tender for a few days.

Can I wear makeup after my appointment?

For at least two weeks, do not wear makeup on your brows. Makeup in other areas is fine.

Do I really need a second appointment?

Yes. Initially two appointments are needed at least 4-6 weeks apart for microblading. A touch-up treatment is absolutely imperative no earlier than 4 weeks and no later than eight. The results will not be optimal without it. You will be required to pay a touch-up fee outlined in the touch-up schedule, if you do not schedule it within 8 weeks. During the touch-up, we assess color retention and any necessary adjustments as each person heals differently and at different rates. Do not worry if your cosmetic tattoo does not heal perfectly the first time! Going bolder, adding more density, correcting any irregularities within hair strokes are all possible during the touch-up appointment.

What do I avoid after treatment?

  • NO Retin A or Glycolic Acids whiling healing.
  • NO peroxide or Neosporin on ANY areas.
  • NO scrubbing or picking of microbladed areas.
  • NO heavy sweating from the first 10 days.
  • NO exposing area to sun or tanning beds for 3-4 weeks after procedure.
  • NO dying or tweezing eyebrows for 10 days after procedure.
  • AVOID facials, swimming, whirlpools for AT LEAST 10 days.

I found a much cheaper priced microblading artist, why are you more expensive?

Ao trained with one of the most reputable and talented artists and trainers whose foundation derives from the top microblading and permanent makeup artists in the world. In addition to her training, Ao's 25+ years in the beauty and threading industry speak to her dedication to client satisfaction, passion for meticulous detail and highly developed skills in capturing the unique features of each individual face. The serious, meticulous and permanent nature of microblading is nothing to be taken lightly so when looking for an artist, please do not put a suspiciously cheap price on your face. With no current regulation in Maine, microblading can be offered cheaply by someone who has no regard for your well-being or customer satisfaction. Please, research your artists! Brow Exfoliating

Why does Ao recommend exfoliating eyebrows before a threading appointment?

Gently exfoliating brows and the surrounding areas assists in preventing ingrown hair, promoting hair regrowth and removing dead skin cells. These benefits create a fresh canvas for threading, product application and a positive brow journey. Emphasis on gently exfoliate! Read Ao's bio here.

What is brow exfoliating?

Gently massaging an exfoliator brush and cleanser in circular motions over the brow and the surrounding areas to remove dead skin cells, typically during facial cleaning routine.

What should I use to exfoliate my brows?

Gentle exfoliation can be achieved with mechanical exfoliator brushes such as the Clarisonic Mia Prima. If the recommended mechanical brush is not an option for you at this moment, using a clean toothbrush, sugar scrub or the Neutrogena microdermabrasion system are great alternatives!

What should I avoid using to exfoliate my brows?

Harsh chemical exfoliants.

What are the cons of brow exfoliating?

If you exfoliate too roughly or vigorously, you risk skin irritation and removal of hair. These reasons are why Ao emphasizes gently taking care of your skin and brows.

Henna Brow Tint

What is Henna Brow Tinting?

Henna brow tinting uses an all-natural, plant-based, peroxide-free product (Henna) that stains the skin and brow hair giving a fuller and deeper effect lasting up to four weeks on brow hair and up to seven days on skin. Henna brow tinting is a great way to save time with daily makeup routines since brows will be all set! It’s also wonderful for clients who are thinking about microblading to test drive how their brows are likely to look with microblading.

Is your specialist certified in Henna Brow Tinting?

Yes. Founder and brow expert Ao is certified according to Microblading, Henna Brow Tinting and Threading industry standards and she reviews with her clients about proper after-care, pre-appointment care and allergy concerns. In addition, Ao's 20+ years in the beauty industry speak to her dedication to client satisfaction, passion for meticulous detail and highly developed skills in capturing the unique features of each individual face. Continuing education is also priority at Ao Luxe, as we believe learning and developing technique and skill is never done. Read Ao's bio here.

Is henna brow tinting ok for sensitive skin and any brows?

We do not recommend tinting for skin that is or has any of the following:

  • Inflamed

  • Chemo (Doctor’s consent required)

  • Sunburn

  • Trauma/cuts/diseases (Ex. Psoriasis, Eczema, Dermatitis)

  • Recent operations around eye area

  • Recent microblading (Must be fully healed)

  • Recent botox/filler in eye area

  • Previous reaction to henna

Henna brow tint works well on:

  • Grey/white hair

  • Hair that doesn’t take to traditional tint easily

  • Patchy brows

  • Light brows

  • Do take note that the more the brow hair, the longer the results than for someone with extremely sparse brows.

How long does the henna tint last?

Henna brow tint lasts up to four weeks on the hair and up to seven days on the skin, which is a longer lasting result than traditional tinting. While traditional tinting only tints the brow hair, henna brow tinting stains the skin and hair. The henna tint will last longer on the brow hair while it will shed as the skin naturally sheds. Henna brow tinting will fade faster on very oily skin than on normal to dry skin.

How long is the appointment?

To ensure you are more than satisfied with your results, the appointment generally lasts up to 45-50 minutes.

How should I prepare before my henna brow tint appointment?

Arrive with make-up free, freshly exfoliated and clean eyebrows.

How will I know the eyebrow shape will be what I want?

Henna brow tinting follows your natural brow shape and Ao will not begin tinting until you agree with the shape drawn and color selected.

Can I wear makeup after my appointment?

For 24 hours after tinting session, avoid using brow makeup, facials, perfumed products and washing hair.

What do I avoid and do for After-Care after tinting appointment?

  • For 24 hours after tinting session, avoid using brow makeup, facials, perfumed products and washing hair.

  • Avoid saunas/swimming for longevity.

  • Use SPF or shade when in bright sunlight.

  • No makeup removers on the brows, including makeup wipes.

  • Avoid oil-based skin care on brow area as this will cause faster fading.

  • Gently wash with gentle soap such as Cetaphil and Johnson/s baby soap.

We do not recommend henna brow tinting to any clients who are or have any of the following:

  • Skin is inflamed

  • Chemo (Doctor’s consent required)
